First 10 kW fibre laser machine is working at SLV M-VAt July 29 and 30 in 2004 the Laser Technology and Tranfer Center in Rostock had commissioned the worldwide first Ytterbium- fibre laser with a power of 10 kW.
The user of that laser source, SLV M-V, and the producer, IPG GmbH, had carried out a lot of measurements on this laser source in line with putting into service. With a wall plug efficiency of roughly 25 % and a beam parameter product of about 12 mm*mrad new standards in the laser technique were set. This technical parameters as well as the small overall size of the laser source (B=1,5m; H=1,5m; T=0,8m) and their easy electrical installation by a common standardized 63 A - connector are differences this source from all up to now for material treatment used solid-state or CO2-laser. Together with the laser source modern equipment for welding, cutting and surface treatment were set into service. With this the SLV M-V is able to deal with substantial tasks from industry as well as with technology development for German and foreign costumers at a very high level.
